Denmark

In November we made our first trip overseas since being in the UK - Woohoo! We visited the University town of Arhus on Denmark's Jutland Peninsula - Arhus is Denmark's second largest city and there's a lot to do there to fill a weekend.

We went to the Music Hall - a really cool building and concert facility - and saw a free recital in the cafe area in the foyer. Next door is the ARoS museum. Denmark is an expensive place and this cost £10 to get in so we decided to settle for the museum shop and the display in the foyer - hmm free things in foyers seem to be a theme here. It was pretty cold though so we were glad of stuff to do indoors!

We also visited the Domkirke and the Viking Museum, which is a really cool little exhibition of the earling Viking settlement. It's underground underneath a bank (!!) and has a couple of houses excavated on or around the original site. The other highlight was Den Gamle By - The Old Town. It is all these old houses, buildings, and shops set up in Arhus and they have staff dressed up and you could go into the old school bakery and stuff. One day we hired a car and drove to Denmark's most northern point in Grenen. It was WINDY!!! You can see the pic of us that was taken on the beach and the pic of the lighthouse was taken there too. The light in Denmark is incredible and driving up here you noticed the intensity. Even though the days are shorter, the daylight gives everything a different edge - hard to describe. We would have liked to have spent more time in the countryside in the peninsula but hey... maybe next time?
